seahorses

Yesterday we went to the Genoa (Italy) Aquarium and it was really cool! First we saw a map of the oceans depth perception and it was very interesting. It showed that some parts of the ocean drop at a severely steep angle and others on a more gentle angle. Then we went to go see some of the animals/fish.

First there were some seahorses that were holding on to each other by their tails! Then there were some smiling eels and then there was a giant plastic fish with clear teeth.

Then went to see the manatees/sea cows. There were 3 adult manatees and 1 baby. When we got there, there were 3 staff members in with the manatees(one in a wet suit and two in plastic overalls) and they were feeding the baby through a bottle, and had thrown in vegetables to distract the baby's parents. The manatees just looked like big balls of cute blubber with a face and fins.

After that, we went to see the sharks. There were about 6 or 7 sharks. They were cool and scary.
Picture
After the Sharks there was a room about protecting animals, then there were lots of tanks of colourful fish.

Then we got to see the Dolphins from above. They were so cute and amazing. I've always loved dolphins but these ones took my breath away. There were 7 dolphins in total: two sisters, their parents, two other girls and one other boy
Picture
There were some seals, penguins, turtles, jellyfish, snakes, lizards, frogs and much more!

Then there was a touch pool were you could touch the stingrays and this one type of fish. Most of the stingrays were rough but one was very smooth and slimy quite frankly.

Then at the end I bought my self a dolphin necklace, and George got a stuffed manatee.

We all had a great day!

My Mom is making me write about an animal, so I chose the pufferfish. The pufferfish is from the Tetraodontidae family. Most pufferfish are small to medium size but there are some types that are longer than 100 cm.

The pufferfish typically lives in the tropics, but there are a few in the temperate zone, and there are none in the cold waters. Most species live in inshore and estuarine waters, but 29 species are found in fresh water. One of these species is found in tropical regions of South America, three species are found in Central Africa and twenty-five species in Southeastern Asia.

The pufferfish has one special ability (that most people already know of): to inflate itself.

The pufferfish inflates to make itself look bigger and hard to be swallowed by sharks, whales and other things bigger than itself.

We're just relaxing here in Nice, going to the beach and eating sweets! Today we climbed up a huge hill to see the magnificent view of Nice.

Picture

Before we climbed the hill we got some pastry from the bakery under our apartment. We ate them at the top of the hill as our reward! I got an "Escargot Chocolat", Mom got a fruit custard tart, George got a chocolate puff pastry and Gampy got a piece of custard pie.

Picture

Then we started walking down and stumbled upon a beautiful waterfall!

Picture

Then we had a wonderful swim at the beach to cool off!

We left the beach and went started heading home when we ran into some fountains...

Yesterday we went to the Harry Potter Studios, and I loved it! It was my birthday present, (as well as mom's dad's and George's) and it was a really good one!

First we got on a train nearby to the downtown then caught another train there. The second train took us to Euston station were we got on the Harry Potter bus that took us to Harry Potter studios!

Harry Potter studios was amazing, it blew my mind! The entrance was filled with huge pictures of some of the characters from the movies and books. The Wesley's flying car was there as well as the set for Harry's room under the stairs.

When we got in the main part of the studios there was a short movie about the making of the movies. Then we were let into the common room were they had two of the four house tables set with cutlery, plates, goblets and pitchers. They also had a quite a few costumes of the characters such as Moaning Myrtle, Hagred, Cedric Digery, Fleur Delacour  and of course Harry. Then we went to see the rest of the sets.

They told us that almost all of the characters had wigs that have a mesh stocking with approximately 10,000 hairs that are each tied one by one into the mesh. They showed us more sets then there was a special effects room with a green screen. Dad and I sat in the flying car together for our picture and Mom and George sat together for theirs. Then we each got a photo of just ourselves on a broom stick. George and I got our photos printed from the broom. Then there was some more sets and then we got our photo taken as if we were pushing our cart through the wall the platform 9 3/4. When we were done that we went on the Hogwarts Express!

Then we had some lunch and I had butterbeer ice cream and George had butterbeer.

Then we went outside to see the knight bus and Uncle Vernon, Aunt Petunia and Dudley. We saw Potter's cottage, the motercycle and another flying car that you could go inside.

Then we went inside again and got to see how all the fake creatures work.

Then we saw the Main Street of diagonal alley.

Then there was the big finale: Hogwarts! Hogwarts was inbetween miniature and realistic size.
Thank you so much Nanny and Poppa!!!!

Perfect Aunt Deb Day

21/9/2015

Happy Belated Birthday Aunt Deb! Today I think that Mom and I might have done all of the things that you would love in London!
We woke up and went to the new Louis Vuitton Series 3 exhibition and got to see a lady actually make a bag. We didn't get to see her do the whole thing because it takes about 30 hours to do the hardware on a single hand bag.
Then we took a bus to the Jamie Oliver restaurant and had some lunch. The food was delicious! Mom had a Superfood salad and I had a Margherita pizza. The dressing on Mom's salad was superb and the tomato sauce on my pizza was amazing! After that we had some of Jamie's homemade Marathon Bar ice-cream, almost as good as Kawartha Dairy!
I hope that you had as good a day on your birthday as we did today!

Off to London

Yesterday we all got up a 6:00am and started to get ready. We all got dressed, brushed our teeth, and ate breakfast. When the owner came to check the place at 6:45 she told us that a baby calf had been born like 5 minutes ago! We went to go see the calf and she was in her pen, already separated from her mom, already standing, and still gooey and wet.

Well then we got in the car we were one minute behind schedule, 7:01 so we had to get going. We drove 3 hours to the Brussels airport and then we had a one hour flight to London England.

We took the subway from the airport to the train station, then the train to the apartment that we're renting for the week. We dropped off our bags, and went out exploring.

We took the train downtown and found out that there was a Malaysian festival on so we had some food there then we went walking around. George and I bought some candy then we got the top of a red double decker bus.

Farm in Holland

Last week we stayed on a farm in holland in a little cabin there was a bunk bed in one room, a queen bed in another, the kitchen and table and couch in the other room. We had some bunnys, guinne-pigs, and pigs for neighbours, we fed them every day! It was a dairy farm so obviously they had cows! They had a robot milking machine and a set of two week old twins, one girl and one boy! I loved staying at the farm, but the one thing I did not like was that they didn't have any wifi so I couldn't post anything.

Day in Flevoland

On Thursday September the 10th we went to a cool tower in the forest, we climbed up and right near the top there was a net hanging over the ground! It was super creepy!!

We also went to a museum on Thursday, about the wind mills and the polder and dykes in here in the Netherlands. It was super cool and interesting and it had lots of fun and interactive stuff...like building a bridge, making a strait river for boats to go down more easily, building a dyke, pumping a pump  and making bubbles!!

A polder is a piece of land that was once water, but has been blocked off from the rest of the sea. After they build a dyke/wall they use pumps turned by windmills to remove all of the water from the polder-to-be and return it back to the ocean.

After all of the water is gone, you still have to wait approximately 25 years for the water to drain, then you can start construction for houses but you still have to wait a couple more years to start farming.

Having a great time here in Belgium with mom, as the boys are in Norway. Yesterday we went to the museum of costume and lace. It was all about clothes from the mid 19th century and their accessories.

After we left the museum, it didn't take us long to settle for some waffles! We took our waffles (one with nutella and one with brown sugar) to the Grand Place and devoured them!!

Then we went to look at some local designers shops!
