A mother-daughter day

The boys departed Mons this morning for Oslo, and by 10:00, Molly finally rolled out of bed so that the girls could start a day alone together.
We chose to stay in Mons for the day, strolling through art galleries, churches and shops. It was a cool day and we have finally admitted that summer ended on Tuesday. I had hoped to stay in warm weather clothing for a while longer, but alas, the climate thinks it's time for a change.
My revelation today is not about the interesting art, the impressive cathedral or Molly's first croque-monsieur, but rather that I'm enjoying this new friendship I'm building with my daughter. As she is lonesome for her friends, I've tried to be a good friend to her: play more of her games, watch more of her shows, and be more attentive to her stories. This is all good stuff to do anyways now that life is less hectic with daily routines, but what I'm finding is that she's at the perfect age for us to shift our relationship from me just being Mom - to being a Mom/Friend. Not only does she need it on this trip, but I do too. I miss my friends just as she does. I guess I didn't expect this change, but it is a wonderful blessing and I hope it continues on a good path.

It looks as though you are enjoying Belgium! Your pictures bring back such great memories! Amusez-vous beaucoup! J'espère que Molly et George parlent beaucoup de français dans ce pays magnifique! Peut-être Molly et George peuvent écrire leurs blogues en français aussi! 😊

There's no doubt the kids should try writing in French. I don't have much of an excuse for it other than to say, it's hard for me to edit it. I'd just be happy if they'd write a line or two in English each day!
The pictures from your trip look amazing. I hope you had fun.
Good luck with all the back to school prep. Best of luck as you start a new year.
