Wednesday morning we went to the Mall of the Emirates to peer into the lives of those who ski race here. It was about +28 degrees outside and -2 inside the indoor ski hill. I understand the desire to ski, but this really is insane...skiing in the desert! An environmentalists nightmare. Anyway...the kids thought it was very cool. (Dad, remember bringing me here about 8 years ago?)
This morning we drove about 100km back to Abu Dhabi. The drive through the developments and desert was quiet but quick on their lovely highways. We were commenting on how easy it must be to build roads when there's lots of land, lots of money and no freezing in the winter.
We came into the city via the causeway along some of the smaller islands. It was good to see a bit of the Persian Gulf. The highlight of the day was seeing the grand mosque. It is a fairly new and extraordinarily beautiful building. Molly and I had wear "appropriate" clothing to enter. How do we look? The answer is hot...it's 30 degrees out!
We ended our day with Chinese food at one of the many multi-cultural restaurants in the city. We haven't had it since home, so it was a nice treat.
George says he wouldn't mind coming back for a year. As a boy who expresses interest in technology, architecture and design, it might be a good idea.
