Gluttony is a sin

It's Friday, September 4th, and Molly and I hopped the train to Brussels this morning to see what the city had in store for us.
We started at the Museum of Fashion and Lace. This small but lovely museum is just behind the Grand Place in the heart of Brussels, and we spent our morning enjoying fashion from the 1850s-1890s - the height of the crinoline era.

After our morning of learning about mid-19th century fashion, we walked towards the main square to enjoy it's well known beauty. But alas, we didn't make it far. The sweet smell of warm waffles caught us and we had to stop...and we had to get 2: one with brown sugar and one with Nutella. They were truly delicious. Two, however, proved to be too much and we, I'm sorry to say, had to discard what we couldn't finish.
I figured we'd be done with our indulgences for the day, but then we entered the street of pure sin: in only 500m I was tempted, tempted and tempted some more by the bounty of Belgium. See for yourself, and ask, before you judge me too harshly for my sugar indulgences, if you could have resisted!,

I think you get my point!.

Not surprisingly, on the next block we found a beautiful church in which to seek absolution for our weaknesses.

The rest of our day was spent enjoying the busyness of Brussels. Molly's interest in fashion caused us to seek out a high-end local designer street. She asked me once if the shopkeepers suspected we wouldn't buy anything there, and I said based on my ugly yet comfortable walking shoes, they'd know we were just browsing.
After we were exhausted from walking so much, we boarded the train back to Mons, and were welcomed 'home' to another one of Sophie's yummy dinners. It was a lovely day.

Ursula, you must send me the official name of the "street of pure sin"...Todd is heading to Brussels next week and I want him to bring me some treats from those amazing shops you photographed!!
So great to read about your adventures. Love all the photos.

Hi Heather, I just looked it up, and I think the street is called....wait for it....Rue au Beurre. How apt! Though I don't think Todd will need to go there specifically as the city seems to be full of chocolate and treats.
I assume the kids are all back to school today. I hope they're happy and enjoying the new building. I guess you have a much shorter walk than before. How was the summer for you?
