We settled into our trailer park - yes, they have camping/trailer parks in Italy. It's quite interesting that they rent out little cottages that are very modern right at the edge of town. Its a refreshing change from apartment buildings and hotels. We can step outside the door and sit on a nice deck and have a cold beer. We didn't do those things because it's cold and rainy here today, but it's nice to know we could.
We toured the highlights of the city, including the tower, the cathedral and two small museums. We watched a short film on the history of the tower construction, and it's hard not to wonder why, after the first three floors sunk into the earth and started to tilt, that builders continued to add more floors. We got caught in a torrential downpour, waited for the rain to pass while enjoying a coffee at McDonalds, and returned to our cabin for a rest around 5:00. One of the issues with travelling, is that I always feel like I should push to see everything I can in a day. However, that's just too exhausting on a long trip. I'm sure there's more to see in Pisa, but we skipped it.
Tomorrow we're meeting Derek, Deb and Evelyn in Venice. Can't wait.
